The Warrior Within

When I'm not building websites, taking photographs, or traveling (or working), I also write fiction, chiefly science-fiction and fantasy. A few years back, I went to the Clarion Writer's Workshop in San Diego, and since then I've been steadily working away at my writing. To date, I've mostly only sold short stories. You can find details of some of them at my writing website.

Today, however, my first piece of long-form fiction comes out. It's a science-fiction novella called “The Warrior Within”, and it's published by Tor.com, a publisher with a solid track record of putting out really first-rate genre books. I couldn't be happier or more proud to be published by them.

The protagonist of “The Warrior Within” lives on a desolate backwater planet, a semi-desert filled with the ruins of a past civilization. All he really wants is a quiet life, but then one day a trio of soldiers show up. And then the trouble starts …

The spectacular cover art is by concept artist Martin Deschambault. The book itself was ably edited by Justin Landon. A host of other people, both at Tor.com and elsewhere, helped to make this book a reality (and you can read about them in the acknowledgements section of the book).

If you want to know more, there's more information and even a short excerpt on my site. There's also a longer excerpt at the Barnes & Noble sci-fi blog.

If you like science-fiction, give it a try.
