About this site

My name is Angus McIntyre. disoriented.net is my travel and photography weblog. I'm a software developer by trade, and a writer and photographer by hobby. I've been lucky enough to be able to travel to some interesting places, and I use this weblog to write about what I see and to post photographs.

I manage a number of other websites. My main website, at raingod.com has been sadly neglected for several years, but it contains some older travel photographs that you might find interesting.

I am also doing a 'one photograph per day' project this year. I post the photographs that I take to another website called Twentyten.

If you have questions or comments, you're welcome to use the contact form to get in touch (but please don't try to sell me anything).

The site is built on Movable Type 4.1 Open Source. Supporting technologies include Ant, Perl, PHP and MySQL. Client-side interactivity uses the jQuery Javascript library, and the jQuery lightbox plugin. It also makes use of icons from shareicons.com and Avi Alkalay.

Technical details

disoriented.net uses MT 4.1 OS for content-management, but there's rather more to it than just another MovableType blog. The skeleton of the site is assembled using Ant and a custom Ant task called XMelissa that uses the Xalan XSLT engine to transform XML page descriptions into static pages and MT templates. Individual posts are entered into MT and published as usual, but a number of custom plug-ins are used to add inline photographs, sluglines and keyword tags. Some PHP and Javascript glue holds everything else together.
